The National Commission on Senior Citizens (NCSC) has lauded the recent installation of an Exercise Zone for seniors at the Moalboal Seawall Park, describing it as a concrete manifestation of the municipality’s commitment to active and healthy ageing. The new facility, equipped with outdoor fitness equipment suitable for older persons, now provides senior citizens with a safe and accessible space to move, stretch, and enjoy regular exercise beside the scenic coastline. The NCSC noted that the project complements ongoing wellness and social programs for seniors in Moalboal, reinforcing the town’s image as a senior‑friendly community.
NCSC Region VII Regional Director Jocelyn O. Tabotabo highlighted that the Exercise Zone helps keep fitness embedded in the everyday lifestyle of senior citizens rather than treating it as an occasional activity. She pointed out that when older persons have dedicated spaces for physical activity, they are more encouraged to participate in group exercises, morning walks, and low‑impact workouts that can prevent illness, reduce the risk of falls, and support mental well‑being. Tabotabo also commended the local government for designing the area to be inclusive, welcoming not only seniors but also families and younger residents to share the space.
The Commission further praised the leadership of the Mayor Inocentes G. Cabaron of the Municipality of Moalboal for investing in age‑friendly infrastructure and urged other local government units to replicate the initiative in their own public parks and open spaces. According to NCSC, transforming parks into exercise and wellness hubs for older persons is an important step in recognizing senior citizens as active contributors to community life. The Exercise Zone at Moalboal Seawall Park now stands as a model of how coastal towns can promote healthy ageing while fostering intergenerational bonding in vibrant public spaces.
