Behind this growing wave of generosity is the Good Samaritan himself, Josh Pountney, a Canadian visitor whose first trip to Moalboal opened his eyes to both the challenges and the quiet strength of local communities. Moved by the joy that books once brought him as a child, he decided to start the “Book Donation Project – For Schools in the Philippines” and began buying, collecting, and packing educational books for Moalboal’s public schools.
Josh does much of this work quietly—sourcing books, raising small donations online, coordinating with teachers, and even hand‑carrying heavy boxes of books back to Cebu—because he believes every learner deserves the chance to dream bigger than their circumstances.
