Hope, healing, and community spirit filled the Senior Citizens’ Building in Brgy. Poblacion East as the Municipal Government of Moalboal and Americares Philippines formally opened a new Wellness Center on March 19, 2026. The center stands as a reminder that in Moalboal, no one has to face their struggles alone—especially when it comes to mental health and growing old with dignity.
Led by Mental Health Focal Person Johnnie Alexis Hernandez, the ceremony gathered representatives from the Association of Barangay Captains, Barangay Health Workers, MSWDO, Rural Health Unit, DepEd–Moalboal District, CTU–Moalboal Campus, PhilHealth, women’s groups, and senior citizens’ organizations, together with Americares Philippines. Their presence showed a united commitment: to build a town where every Moalboalanon—young or old—can find support, understanding, and a safe space to heal.
The Wellness Center forms part of Americares’ Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Program, which helps communities recover, grow stronger, and develop local champions for mental well‑being. Here, residents will be able to join counseling and group activities, learn coping skills, and participate in wellness sessions designed to restore confidence, joy, and connection. For many seniors and families, this new space will become a second home—where stories are listened to, worries are shared, and hope is rebuilt one conversation at a time.
This initiative also strengthens Moalboal’s growing network of wellness programs for the elderly, including the pioneering Senior Citizens Community Care Center and new exercise and wellness zones for older persons. With the continued support of partners like the National Commission of Senior Citizens, the Rural Health Unit, and Americares, Moalboal is steadily becoming a model town for compassionate, community‑based care.
