The Municipal Government of Moalboal has expressed its full compliance with, and support for, the Province of Cebu’s audit of all LGU dog pounds under the Rabies Prevention and Control Program. In response to the communication from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, Municipal Mayor Inocentes G. Cabaron assured that Moalboal will actively cooperate with the Provincial Animal Welfare Council (PAWC) audit team and make all relevant records, facilities, and personnel available during the scheduled on-site assessment. The initiative, undertaken pursuant to Executive Order No. 59 of Governor Pamela S. Baricuatro, aims to promote animal welfare, strengthen rabies prevention, and safeguard public health across all component LGUs.
According to the Provincial Veterinarian’s office, the LGU assessment will review the current status of Moalboal’s dog pound operations, rabies vaccination coverage, impounding and disposition procedures, and other animal health services, in line with the Animal Welfare Act and the Anti-Rabies Act. Mayor Cabaron directed concerned offices, including agriculture, health, and veterinary services, to coordinate closely with the provincial team to ensure that Moalboal’s existing programs, facilities, and records reflect the municipality’s continuing efforts to maintain humane animal management and protect residents from rabies and other zoonotic diseases. The LGU likewise welcomed the audit as an opportunity to identify areas for improvement and to align local policies and practices with updated provincial standards on animal welfare and public health.
“We are one with the Provincial Government of Cebu in promoting responsible pet ownership and protecting our communities from rabies,” Mayor Cabaron said, emphasizing that Moalboal’s participation in the audit underscores its commitment to proactive and science-based animal control measures. The municipal government encouraged pet owners to register and vaccinate their dogs, comply with existing ordinances, and cooperate with pound regulations to help sustain a safe and animal-friendly environment in Moalboal.
