The Municipality of Moalboal joined Cebu Province’s “Solid Waste Management Profiling” workshop at the Cebu Grand Hotel, sending Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO) Engr. Edwin Tacoloy as its official delegate. The province‑wide activity, spearheaded by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) headed by Mr. Rodel Bontuyan in partnership with the Environmental Management Bureau Region 7, gathered local environment officers to strengthen data‑driven planning and compliance with Republic Act 9003. The one‑day workshop featured presentations on current solid waste management trends, provincial updates, and the status of local government implementation of 10‑year Solid Waste Management Plans.
Representing Moalboal as MENRO designate, Engr. Tacoloy participated in sessions that detailed the new profiling tools and data requirements designed to capture waste generation, collection systems, disposal facilities, and diversion initiatives at the LGU level. Through interactive workshops, participants identified challenges such as limited disposal capacity, weak segregation at source, and growing waste volumes, and were guided in crafting feasible interventions including clustering of LGUs for shared facilities, expansion of materials recovery facilities, and enhancement of community‑based composting and recycling programs.
The workshop also provided a venue for environment officers to exchange experiences and best practices that can be replicated in their respective municipalities.
Engr. Tacoloy is expected to relay the outputs of the activity to the Municipal Government of Moalboal and integrate the learnings into ongoing and future environmental initiatives of the LGU. The participation of Moalboal underscores the municipality’s commitment to strengthening its solid waste management programs, supporting provincial efforts to build a cleaner, more resilient Cebu, and aligning local actions with national environmental laws and policies.
