Moalboal National High School has once again showcased its excellence in scientific innovation as its student researchers clinched the top spot in the 2025 Division Science and Technology Fair’s Tuklas Competition, held at Compostela STHS, Compostela District, on October 17, 2025. Representing the Municipality of Moalboal, the winning team—composed of Andrea Jade Z. Zabala, Raphaael Ryan Sencil, and Jhyrus Davev Gabato—earned first place in the Innovation Expo (Team) category under the guidance of coach Quennie Grace B. Sabanal.
Their entry, titled “GUSTARO: Innovative Biodegradable Straws from Seaweed Guso (Eucheuma cottonii) and Taro (Colocasia esculenta) Starch,” impressed judges with its creative approach to sustainability and environmental protection. The project features eco-friendly straws made from locally sourced seaweed and taro, demonstrating the students’ commitment to addressing plastic waste and promoting green alternatives.
This notable achievement highlights Moalboal’s growing reputation as a breeding ground for young scientific minds and innovative ideas. The school administration, local officials, and the entire Moalboal community extend their heartfelt congratulations to the student researchers and their coach for bringing pride and honor to the municipality.
