After weeks of preparation and practice, Moalboal will make its Calderon Cup debut today against Alacntara, hoping to kick off its campaign in the grassroots development league with a victory.
The team, led by coach Jaysar Esparat and Nick Amporado, has been training for almost two months for the tournament, which is Cong Patsy Calderon’s initiative to get the youth in the seventh district a chance to showcase their talent and be discovered.
Meanwhile, the tournament had a successful opening ceremony on Saturday in Dumanjug, with all the mayors and vice mayors of the seventh district in attendance. Host mayor Gungun Gica of Dumanjug also had a pleasant surprise for the participants by handing out P10,000 financial assistance and a set of warmers to all teams. Former Congressman Peter John Calderon, who is personally bankrolling the tournament, and Board Member Paz Rozgoni also attended the opening program, which featured a world-class production.
In the Miss Calderon Cup contest, Zamantha Nicole Koleszar of Moalboal, also finished first runner-up to Alcantara.
