The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) has extended insurance protection to 1,187 farmers and fisherfolk in Moalboal for calendar year 2025, providing a total of ₱29.4 million in insurance cover across crop, livestock, fisheries, non‑crop, and credit and life term lines.
The coverage reflects the municipality’s strong collaboration with PCIC to shield local food producers from losses due to calamities, pests, and diseases. This initiative forms part of PCIC’s continuing effort to bring its services closer to agricultural communities nationwide.
For the same period, 41 insured farmers in Moalboal have already received a total of ₱366,935.50 in indemnity payments for rice, corn, high‑value crops, and livestock. These payouts help affected farmers recover production costs and sustain their livelihoods even after experiencing damage in their farms and agri‑enterprises. The program likewise supports access to formal credit, as insured farmers are better able to meet obligations with partner lending institutions.
Mayor Inocentes G. Cabaron expressed his elation over the PCIC program, noting that it offers vital protection and peace of mind to the town’s farmers and fisherfolk. He said the municipal government sees the full potential of agricultural insurance in the years to come and will continue strengthening its partnership with PCIC and the Municipal Agriculture Office to expand coverage. The mayor also urged more farmers to enroll and avail of the program so that Moalboal’s agriculture sector can become more resilient and productive in the face of climate and market challenges.
