The Local Government Unit of Moalboal is strengthening its ecological solid waste management efforts by adopting best practices that promote the widespread use of compost pits in households and barangays.
MENRO Head Engr. Edwin Tacoloy reiterated that composting is both an environmentally sound and legally mandated practice under Republic Act No. 9003. He noted that compost pits offer a practical, low‑cost method for managing biodegradable waste at the source, reducing the strain on municipal waste collection and disposal systems. Mayor Inocentes G. Cabaron expressed full support, affirming the LGU’s commitment to assist barangays in establishing and sustaining composting systems.
By learning from proven models and regional best practices, Moalboal LGU aims to significantly reduce the volume of waste transported to the landfill. The initiative aligns with DENR Administrative Order No. 2001‑34, which encourages community‑based composting, especially in rural and coastal areas. Households are encouraged to construct their own compost pits to help lessen landfill dependency and contribute to a cleaner, greener Moalboal.
