In a landmark move toward inclusive and compassionate infrastructure, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cebu 7th District Engineering Office has officially approved the detailed engineering design for the construction of a halfway house in Barangay Bugho, Moalboal. The facility will serve as a safe haven for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), offering protection, support services, and a pathway to healing.
The project, titled “Protection and Support Centers/Buildings, Construction of Halfway Houses Supporting Victims of Gender-Based Violence”, reflects a growing commitment to human rights-centered development in the region.
Joining the coordination meeting were representatives from DPWH, Moalboal Mayor Inocentes Cabaron, Municipal Engineer Katrina Anne Lisondra, and Planning Officer-on-Charge Architect Katherine Peque. Their presence signals strong inter-agency collaboration and shared resolve to deliver responsive infrastructure that meets urgent social needs.
Local leaders and stakeholders in Moalboal have welcomed the development, citing its potential to strengthen the town’s social support systems and reinforce its commitment to safe, inclusive communities.
